What is functional medicine?

Functional Medicine is the clinical application of systems-based biology. Functional Medicine asks how and why an illness occurs and restores health by addressing the root causes of disease for each individual. A person is not an isolated set of symptoms. Complex, chronic illness is determined by a combination of genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors. Your treatment plan may involve prescription medication, nutrition, exercise, supplements, detoxification, mindfulness practice and/or referral to other specialists (e.g., sleep doctor, dentist).

Your treatment plan will consider:

1. Antecedants, triggering events and mediators (identified within initial intake paperwork and by listening to your story)

2. Modifiable personal lifestyle factors (sleep, movement, nutrition, stress, relationships)

3. Inflammation and immune balance

4. Hormones and neurotransmitters

5. Mitochondrial function & oxidative stress

6. Detoxification ability

7. Nutrient deficiencies

8. Gut & digestive health

Who can benefit from functional medicine?

Everyone! Whether you are healthy and want to stay that way by focusing on prevention or you have already been diagnosed with a chronic illness – functional medicine can help. It is a patient-centered, personalized approach that addresses the whole person (lifestyle factors, exercise, diet, movement, nutrient deficiencies, etc.) and not just your isolated set of symptoms.

how do i become a patient?

You can click the “Get Started as a Patient” button at which point you will be prompted to fill out the registration form. You will then have access to the patient portal where you can schedule your initial consultation appointment with Toni by clicking on “Appointments”.

You also have the option of scheduling a one-time free 15 minute consult with Toni to see if this is a good fit for you.

What do I need to do before my first appointment?

Prior to your initial consultation, all intake paperwork must be completed and a credit card on file within your patient portal. If the paperwork is not completed a minimum of 24 hours prior to your scheduled appointment, your appointment will need rescheduled.

What happens during a typical appointment?

The initial consultation is a two part visit (two hour total, one hour each visit). The first visit/hour, Toni will review your intake paperwork prior to your visit. During the visit, she will listen to your story, further review, clarify and ask any other questions she may have. Labs will be ordered at the end of that first visit and the second visit will be scheduled (approximately 4 weeks after the first visit). During the second visit, Toni will then review your lab results with you and make recommendations. This can include medication, supplements, nutrition plans, exercises, stress reduction techniques, detoxification protocols, and/or referrals to specialists (e.g., sleep doctor, dentist, craniosacral therapy, EMDR, women’s health, Chiropractic care, etc.).

If you choose to opt in to a membership program, labs will be ordered and expected to be done at least 4 weeks prior to scheduled visits unless otherwise discussed/decided on an individual case basis with Toni.

If you choose to be an hourly patient, labs will not be ordered/expected automatically, without discussing this with Toni first.

What are your office hours?

Toni sees patients Tuesday – Thursday 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (CST).

Do you take insurance?

Toni’s services are out of network. Unlike traditional medicine visits that may last 10 or 15 minutes, your initial consult with Toni is two hours long.  You do have multiple payment options for the laboratory testing to include credit/debit, FSH, HSA or 3-month payment plans for patients in need. This also means no prior authorizations.

What are your fees?

The two hour initial consultation with Toni is $350. This does not include the lab fees. Lab fees for the initial consultation are approximately $450.

Options for established patients once you  complete an initial consultation include (Toni will provide guidance on this at the end of your initial consultation):

-Hourly Option: $275/hour (lab fees not included) This option is not available for those who require close monitoring, are on medication(s), require refills, etc. There is NO portal access to ask questions with this option. This option is best for college students, etc. who just want to check in every once in while to get an overview of their health status.

-Basic Membership: $600/year billed as $50/month. Two 60-90 minute visits per year. Access to the patient portal to communicate directly with Toni. Discount on supplements (lab fees not included).

-Comprehensive Membership: $1500/year billed as $125/month. Four 60-90 minute visits per year. Access to the patient portal to communicate directly with Toni. Enhanced discount on supplements (lab fees not included).

How do I pay for my visit?

Full payment is expected prior to each visit. Payment types accepted include Visa, Mastercard, AMEX, Discover and certain FSH/HSA card types.

What laboratory testing do you do and is it covered by insurance?

Lab work can include anything from routine to advanced blood work that you have drawn at a lab near you and/or functional testing that can include urine, stool and/or saliva that are drop shipped directly to you for you to do at home. These labs are not covered by insurance, however, you do get discounted wholesale prices on all labs.

Where do I go to have the laboratory testing completed?

Once the labs are ordered by Toni, you will receive an email with instructions on how to proceed. If it is blood work, you will be instructed to go to a blood draw facility near you. If it is a functional kit (stool, saliva, urine), it will be drop shipped directly to your door for you to do at home with instructions/label for shipping it back.

Do you see people in person or telemedicine only?

Toni is seeing patients via telemedicine only as it is convenient for people and HIPAA compliant.
